Joey Bada$$ Classifies MAGA As A ‘Cult’

Joey Bada$$ isn’t here for Donald Trump or any of his rabid fanbase.

On Wednesday (June 3), Joey denounced Trump’s MAGA supporters on Twitter, which is an acronym for the 45’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. Calling them a cult, the Wu-Tang: An American Saga actor came up with an alternative name for the group instead.

“MAGA is a cult,” he tweeted. “Fully equipped with the God Complexed incompetent leader. From now on we are referring to the aforementioned as, MAGATS (pronounced MAGGOTS).”

The recently dubbed MAGATS have been extremely busy amid both the COVID-19 quarantine and George Floyd protests, hitting the streets to fight for their right to get a haircut as well as to push back against people protesting police brutality.

They identify themselves at times with red hats sporting Trump’s call-to-action, while others may have it in their social media bio with the American flag emoji.

How each MAGAT interprets their leader’s slogan varies, but the general consensus appear to operate with the belief system they’re superior in both race and party. While a majority are white Americans, some minorities also fiercely support Trump, including Kanye West.

‘Ye hasn’t divulged where he currently stands as Trump continues to call for the use of excessive force against people protesting in the name of black lives, but he did reaffirm his support for Trump as recently as March.

“I’m a black guy with a red [MAGA] hat, can you imagine?” he said in an interview with Wall Street Journal Magazine. “It reminded me of how I felt as a black guy before I was famous, when I would walk in a restaurant and people would look at you like you were going to steal something. ‘This is your place, Ye, don’t talk about apparel. This is your place, Ye, you’re black, so you’re a Democrat.”

Though he’s been silent amid the protests since Floyd’s death on May 25, Kanye has reportedly arranged for $2 million to be donated to the families of Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor.

He reportedly also set up a 529 college savings fund to fully fund the education of Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter Gianna when she’s of age and donated to various black-owned businesses across the country, including his hometown of Chicago.
