Gunna Denies Snitching After CNN Video Resurfaces

Posted by

Gunna addressed allegations of snitching in an interview with The Breakfast Club. After a video of him participating in a CNN interview on “no-snitch culture” resurfaced online, the YSL Records artist attempted to clarify the situation when asked about it by Charlamagne Tha God.

Over the past six months, rival rappers Sauce Walka and TEC have provided a signal boost to the snitching claims against the Young Thug protégé. Although Gunna doesn’t deny appearing in the video that spread on social media, he says it has nothing to do with the Crime Stoppers program or him snitching.

“Man, I don’t know what the fuck that’s about,” he said. “I don’t … Man, Crime Stopper where? I ain’t never stopped a crime. Never.”

Gunna explained, “Yes that’s me, but that wasn’t on no Crime Stopper. I don’t know what the hell niggas think ’bout ’cause I wasn’t in no case or nothing. So a nigga even saying, ‘Oh you snitched on who?’ I was never in no case. See what I’m saying? But, you know, niggas … that be going back to the internet shit. I don’t really be feeding into it because muthafuckas don’t know. I’m really from the streets. Where I’m from, if you snitched, bruh that shit is in paperwork. The shit is a document. All that cap shit don’t be ’bout nothing.”

In the CNN clip, Gunna talked about his cousin Devonni Benton being on trial for murder in 2010. At the time, the 300 Entertainment rapper said Benton was wrongfully charged for the 2009 fatal shooting of 19-year-old Jasmine Lynn. According to him, his cousin initially refused to snitch on the actual gunman.

“My cousin went to jail,” he told The Breakfast Club. “Little girl got killed, my cousin went to jail for it. Another nigga went to court and said my cousin did it. But my cousin didn’t do it. That was what I was putting them on. Y’all got the wrong nigga. This my cousin. My cousin got [a] life [sentence] and shit, right now to this day.”

Although he denied snitching due to the lack of paperwork, his CNN interview does point the finger at another man. Clarence Carter, the person Gunna’s cousin later testified was responsible for the shooting, is mentioned in the piece.

“This man let my family member go down for something he did,” he said in 2010.
