Ice Cube Dismisses Notion Of CGI John Witherspoon For ‘Last Friday’

Ice Cube has zero interest in using a CGI version of the late John Witherspoon for the Friday franchise’s fourth film.

Computer-generated imagery of dead actors has become more commonplace in Hollywood, including the controversial “casting” of a CGI James Dean in the upcoming Vietnam War drama Finding Jack. But when TMZ asked Cube if Witherspoon might show up in the long-awaited Last Friday film via the technology, the veteran MC scoffed at the idea.

“Nah, never,” he responded before criticizing New Line Cinema for taking too long to greenlight the movie.

Prior to his brief conversation with the TMZ paparazzo, Cube shared his frustrations with New Line Cinema — the production studio behind the Friday franchise — via Twitter. The respected rapper/actor noted he will have to rewrite the script for Last Friday since Witherspoon’s character Willie Jones was a major part of the screenplay.

“Back to the drawing board since New Line Cinema was slow on green lighting the LAST FRIDAY script that was full of Mr. Jones,” he wrote. “I’ve been pissed off about it since Spoon passed away.”

Witherspoon passed away in his Los Angeles home on October 29. The 77-year-old actor’s cause of death was a heart attack.

The veteran comedian starred in all three of the previous entries of the Friday franchise. Friday After Next, the last installment of the series, was released in 2002.
