Los Angeles, CA – Nipsey Hussle was roughly 24 hours away from meeting with members of the Los Angeles Police Department for a Gang Violence Summit when he was gunned down in front of his clothing store. According to TMZ, the summit will go on as planned.

Nip was expected to be at a meeting with the LAPD on Monday afternoon (April 1). The Los Angeles Police Commissioner Steve Sobroff tweeted it about it shortly after the tragic incident.

“We (@LAPDChiefMoore and I ) were meeting , at the request of @NipseyHussle with him and @rocnation tomorrow at 4pm to talk about ways he could help stop gang violence and help us help kids. I’m so very sad.”

Law enforcement sources said Roc Nation’s Jay Brown spoke to the LAPD on behalf of Nipsey in an effort to set up a meeting between the slain rapper and at least two high-ranking police officials.

Brown contacted Soboroff about three months ago to coordinate the summit. Nipsey — a self-admitted Rolling 60s Crip — wanted to discuss ways to prevent gang violence in Los Angeles, especially in his Crenshaw District neighborhood.

Soboroff said he regretted not holding the meeting earlier.

“The sadness that I feel — I wish we could have had the meeting on Friday,” he said. “I think he would have been excited about all the possibilities, and I know we were.”

Nip was killed on Sunday (March 31), sending shockwaves across the Hip Hop community. He was 33.

Someone from Roc Nation will reportedly attend the meeting in Nip’s place, possibly Brown.

Meanwhile, LAPD is combing surveillance footage captured by several cameras near Nip’s Marathon Clothing store, hoping to pinpoint a suspect. The Blast reports at least five video cameras are mounted on the businesses of the strip mall on Slauson and Crenshaw.
