Los Angeles, CA – Donald Glover may not have walked away with any trophies, but he caused quite a stir with his appearance at the 2018 Emmy Awards.
On Monday (September 17), Glover stepped into Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater in whiteface, a nod to his Atlanta character Teddy Perkins.

Teddy made his debut in the sixth episode of Atlanta Robbin’ Season — the second season of the popular FX show — back in April. Fellow Atlanta actor Derrick Haywood confirmed the news, explaining, “Initially, I had no idea that Teddy Perkins was actually played by Donald Glover.
“Not only did Glover play Teddy, he transformed into Teddy on set, staying in character as the shady figure – pasty makeup, wig, high-pitched voice and all – between scenes.”
Glover, who was back to his “regular self” later in the evening, was nominated for the prestigious award in several categories, including Outstanding Writing In A Comedy Series and Outstanding Directing In A Comedy Series.
Comedian Katt Williams did earn a trophy for his guest role on Atlanta in the Guest Actor, Comedy category.
Beyond Atlanta, Glover was also up for an Outstanding Guest Actor award for his double-duty appearance on Saturday Night Live.
At last year’s ceremony, Glover won two awards for Atlanta in the Outstanding Directing In a Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor In a Comedy Series categories.
