DaBaby Throws FaceTime Concert For Charlotte After Jet Breaks Down

Posted by

Charlotte, NC – When circumstances outside of his control forced Charlotte rap star DaBaby to miss a Thursday night (December 5) performance in his hometown, the Grammy-nominated performer found a unique way to keep his commitment to his fans.

On Thursday morning, DaBaby was in NYC filming a promo for his upcoming SNL performance. Later that same night, he was scheduled to perform at the Power98 Winter Block Party in Charlotte, NC. The “Suge” rapper rented a private jet to fly him home in time for the annual concert but the aircraft experienced technical difficulties on the runway and the crew had to turn around, forcing the DaBaby to miss his set.

Once it became clear he was not going to make it to the concert, DaBaby took to Instagram Live to express his disappointment and apologized. Luckily, his team and the staff at Power98 were able to work out a one-of-a-kind solution. When the time came for DaBaby to perform, he delivered his entire set from the broken-down aircraft via FaceTime.

The staff at the Bojangles Coliseum and the team from Power98 FM worked together to broadcast the call live on the stadium’s jumbotrons. Fan videos taken from inside the venue show the crowd dancing to some of the rapper’s biggest hits, like “Suge” and “Bop”, while he performed from the runway on his iPhone.

On Friday (December 6), DaBaby posted a full apology on his personal Instagram account. After thanking his fans in Charlotte for their loyalty, he promised ticket-holders a free show to make up for the mishap in the near future.

He wrote an open letter to his fans on the IG post. The caption read

“Due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to make it my show in my OWN. city last night??‍♂️ Paid extra for a jet just to make sure this type of shit wouldn’t happen.

Although Baby a firm believer in everything happening for a reason I can’t get over the fact that I let my fans(FAMILY) down by not being able to make it. Thanks to my fast moving team and a few solid supporters at @power98fm we figured out a way to broadcast me live on the jumbo screen at the concert on a FaceTime call. #BDBENT Super Star @stunna4vegas held it down and explained to the audience what was goin on. Soon as they heard my voice and saw my face on the screen over a FaceTime call the whole arena turnt up! I just witnessed myself rock a coliseum through a FaceTime call?

No matter how it come off anybody that know me personally can tell you I’m one of the most humble people you could meet, especially being in the position I’m in and why I went through to get here. But last night I was humbled even more. God gave me the opportunity to show my city I’m NOT perfect. While at the same time showing me that I don’t gotta be perfect at all for my city to love and support me?

For the lessons taught through these unfortunate circumstances I’m forever grateful ?? This type of shit don’t happen where we from, they usually would’ve tore that bitch down. But instead y’all helped me write another page in the history book last night.

Preciate y’all for understanding?? From, Baby.
