Jermaine Dupri isn’t afraid to speak his mind, which he recently made clear with his controversial “strippers rapping” comment.  Now, the So So Def powerhouse is coming for Lil Nas X, who recently beat Mariah Carey’s Billboard record for longest-running No. 1 hit with “Old Town Road.”

On Wednesday morning (August 7), Dupri defended Carey’s legacy while ostracizing the 20-year-old breakout star.

“No!! You can’t sit with us,” he wrote. “go sit over there and based on the stats and this chart, @mariahcarey is the greatest song writer in history.”

Lil Nas X initially dropped “Old Town Road” independently last December. But over the past few months, the song has exploded in popularity thanks to the power of social media.

The track has been remixed four times with a wide array of artists contributing to various incarnations, including country superstar Billy Ray Cyrus, Diplo and Young Thug.

“Old Town Road” surpassed the previous record of 16 weeks at No. 1 set by Carey’s “One Sweet Day” featuring Boyz II Men and Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito” with Justin Bieber.

After Lil Nas X beat Carey’s record, the Grammy Award-winning singer playfully passed the torch to her blossoming successor.

“Sending love & congrats to @lilnasx on breaking one of the longest running records in music history!” she wrote. “We’ve been blessed to hold this record with a song that means a great deal to @BoyzIIMen and myself and has touched so many. Keep living your best life!”

Dupri has collaborated with Carey numerous times, beginning in 1995 with the chart-topping single “Always Be My Baby.”
