Los Angeles, CA – The Los Angeles music community was blindsided when prominent beatmaker and Brainfeeder affiliate Ras G passed away earlier this week at the age of 39.

In the wake of his unexpected death, several of his peers expressed their deep sorrow on social media, including Flying Lotus, Thundercat, Open Mike Eagle, Evidence and DJ Rhettmatic.

In an effort to carry on Ras’ legacy, his brother Bryan Shorter has launched a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $20,000, which will all be donated to his family.

According to the caption, the money will be used to help cover the costs of “future projects and ventures to keep his name alive and The BASS KNOCKING!”

“My brother was an amazing man,” Shorter tells HipHopDX. “The world knew him as an amazing producer and DJ, but he was an amazing brother, uncle and friend to many. He shined his light on whoever needed it at the time as well as knowledge of many backwoods.

“He put his all into his music and craft to give to the world. As a family, we simply want to still be able to continue to shine the light and give what he worked so hard for.”

In addition to the GoFundMe, a fundraiser for Ras and his family is also being held on August 4 at the Lodge Room in L.A. Tickets are available here.
