Tyler, The Creator Finally Addresses DJ Khaled Billboard 200 Controversy: "No Disrespect"

Tyler, The Creator recently sat down for an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe and weighed in on the DJ Khaled Billboard 200 controversy. Khaled was upset Tyler’s album bundles counted toward his total sales while Khaled’s bundles didn’t.

The Odd Future mastermind noted he was particularly proud of himself when IGOR debuted at No. 1, ahead of Khaled’s star-studded Father Of Asahd album — especially since he says people “hated” 2015’s Cherry Bomb.

“I’m just saying people fucking hated that fucking album,” Tyler said. “So when I put [IGOR] out and it [land at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart], and again, I don’t make shit to be first week or be radio or whatever, but for this work of art and that album cover and these videos and me doing this suit wig thing and having these progressions and this distorted this and that, and these melodies and this stuff like that, beat …

“…  and this is no disrespect to Khaled or anyone, but this nigga had every person in the industry, everyone on that fucking album. Everyone. Everyone. Cardi B. 21 Savage. Travis Scott. Post Malone. Beyoncé. Jay. Everyone who sells billions of records and the fact that I beat him with this that isn’t parallel to all the popping music right now was fucking crazy, bro.”

Khaled appeared agitated in a since-deleted Instagram video he posted shortly after Father Of Asahd landed at No. 2 last month. He also seemed to take a shot at Tyler’s music, calling it “mysterious shit.”

“I make albums so people can play it and you actually hear it,” Khaled said. “You know, driving your car, you hear another car playing it. You know, go to the barbershop, you hear them playing it.

“You know, turn the radio on, and you hear them playing it. It’s called great music. It’s called albums that you actually hear the songs. Not no mysterious shit that you never hear it.”

Tyler responded in true Tyler fashion. He took a couple of subtle jabs at Khaled’s comments on a post from DJ Akademiks who was taking a poll on who had the better album — Tyler or Khaled.

Armed with ample amounts of sarcasm, Tyler replied, “who tf listens to tyler the creator?” and followed up with, “HIS MSG SHOW SOLD OUT BUT FR I HAVE NEVER HEARD A TYLER SONG IN MY LIFE.”

IGOR sold roughly 165,000 total album equivalent units in its first week, while Father Of Asahd sold around 132,000.
