Kid Cudi Promises New Music Next Year

Posted by

It’s no secret Kid Cudi has wrestled with mental health issues for years. He was hospitalized in 2016 for depression and “suicidal urges” but has seemingly been on the mend ever since.

Aside from his collaborative project with Kanye West, Kids See Ghosts, the 35-year-old Cleveland artist hasn’t put out a proper album since 2016’s Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’. But evidently, that’s going to change in the near future.

According to several tweets he shared on Friday (May 17), Cudi is back in the studio and has promised new material in 2020. However, he made it clear self-care comes first.

“New music next year!!” he wrote. “Gonna work the rest of this year. In no rush to do anything right now. I dont drop albums every year anymore. Gotta give myself time to do other things. And relax!”

Cudi added it will “all make sense soon” and proclaimed the “next stage has begun.”

Shortly after his 2016 hospitalization, Cudi explained why he chose to reveal his struggles via Facebook and what made him seek treatment during an interview with Billboard.

“I was in a really bad place, and at the time, I felt like I was letting a lot of people down,” he said. “It was really hard for me to even write that letter, but I needed to be honest with the kids. I needed to. I couldn’t live a lie. I couldn’t pretend to be happy.”
