Food & Liquor was released in 2006, one year after his breakthrough guest appearance on Kanye West’s single “Touch the Sky.” The LP debuted in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200, received multiple Grammy nominations and earned a perfect score from HipHopDX in a review by former Editor-In-Chief Andreas Hale.

Lupe went on to release a sequel, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1, in 2012. He chose to cancel plans for its follow-up, Pt. 2, in 2013.
