Tekashi 6ix9ine Gets Lighter Charge In Alleged Cop Assault

New York, NY – Tekashi 6ix9ine is reportedly receiving a lighter charge for his alleged altercation with a cop.

According to TMZ, the controversial figure’s felony assault on an officer charge has been reduced to a misdemeanor assault charge. Prosecutors determined the alleged injuries weren’t serious enough to warrant a felony.

6ix9ine was charged with assaulting an officer on May 21. According to police, the rainbow color-haired rhymer squeezed and twisted the hands of a cop who was removing the rapper’s handcuffs at the 77th Precinct station house.

The incident allegedly occurred while he was in custody for driving with a suspended license. On May 20, cops say they stopped 6ix9ine because he was parked in front of a fire hydrant. He was subsequently arrested after officers ran his name through the system and discovered the suspended license.

6ix9ine was facing up to seven years in prison for the felony assault charge. He’ll now face no more than one year.

Despite getting a lesser charge in this case, 6ix9ine has more legal woes to deal with going forward. He was recently arrested in New York for an outstanding warrant in Texas, where he’s accused of choking a teen at a Houston mall.

6ix9ine was released on bail on July 12 but had to turn himself into Houston authorities as part of his release. He surrendered in Texas on Monday (July 16) and posted $5,000 bail.
