Pittsburgh, PA – On the heels of XXXTENTACION’s death, Hip Hop has suffered another loss.
Pittsburgh-bred rapper Jimmy Wopo was killed in a shooting in his hometown on Monday (June 18), WPXI News reports. Wopo, whose real name is Travon Smart, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and died at the medical facility.
The up-and-coming artist was one of two victims of the Pittsburgh Hill District neighborhood shooting. He was 21 years old.

Wopo first gained major recognition beyond his hometown with the release of his breakout single “Elm Street” in 2016. The song racked up over 6 million views on YouTube and 3.63 million streams on SoundCloud.

Man… RIP Jimmy Wopo. One of the few new artists I enjoyed a lot in the last year. I remember Mac tweeted “First Day Out” and I thought this dude is very charismatic AND he can rap. ‘Back Against The Wall’ was a great album. Sad he won’t get a chance to reach his potential.
